Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of October, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in Westbury:
UTILITIES
- Crews from E-J Electric will continue the process of removing temporary utility poles across the entire project alignment.
- In some areas, workers may have to access private property in which case the project will coordinate in advance with individual business/property owners.
WESTBURY STATION ENHANCEMENTS
- Both pedestrian overpasses, elevator jacks, and pistons are now installed. Pocket park work construction continues with anticipated completion by Q3 of 2022.
- Additional elevator, stairs, and guardrail work will continue throughout the month in anticipation of opening to the public.
- In October, crews will work to waterproof the Westbury overpasses.
- Crews will continue finishing brick work at the station underpass.
- Interior and exterior station house construction is in progress.
- Crews continue installation of the station house roof, gutter, ceiling, and tiles.
- Pocket work will continue including brick installation, tile installation, AC installation and pavers.
- E-J Electric will work to install conduit, signage bands, and light fixtures during the month of September.
- Glass art has been installed at the station.
WALL CONSTRUCTION
- Crews will continue punch list wall construction from North/South School Street to Urban Avenue.
THIRD TRACK INSTALLATION
- Construction of the new third track is being installed between Carle Place Station and Westbury Station.
- From 10/1-10/3, intensive work will take place around the clock to support temporary gangway installation and additional demolition work.
- Following this activity, the temporary platforms will be removed, and permanent platforms will be in service.
TRIPLE TRACK OUTAGES
- The LIRR Expansion Project is nearing completion. In the next few months, weekend rail service will be modified to allow the contractor, 3TC, and LIRR to finish work on the track, signals, switches, and stations. LIRR also will be performing non-project work during the weekend triple-track outages (TTOs) and double-track outages (DTOs). Completing this intensive work in conjunction with the project will reduce the overall time and level of disruption required for these essential transportation upgrades. Due to ongoing construction, there may be a possibility of additional outages.
