Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of March, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in Carle Place:
Completion dates are subject to change due to developments related to COVID-19
Wall Construction
- Crews substantially completed restoring Atlantic Avenue on the north side of the tracks between the Meadowbrook Parkway and Cherry Lane Bridge
- A dedicated landscaping area has been constructed along the wall and landscaping has been installed in most of the available areas. In the spring of 2022, 3TC will return to the area to finish the wall in its permanent condition and maintain newly planted greenery
- Following the N3/Divide 1 Cutover, crews will begin removing the temporary utility poles which are outside of the newly constructed sound wall on Atlantic Ave. This will allow for the remaining wall panels to be installed on the North Side
G17 Substation
- With the successful delivery and installation of the G17 Substation, 3TC and EJ Electric will continue to work on the necessary electrical components which feed the substation. Once complete, 3TC will start the regreening process
- The G17 Substation is one of several substations along the Main Line being replaced or modified with new modern equipment
Carle Place Station Enhancement Project
- 3TC, EJ Electric and various subcontractors will continue performing finish work in and around the Carle Place Station
- 3TC has completed the modification of the Garden Ave ramp, ensuring ADA accessibility. Permanent handrails are expected to be installed this month
Nassau 3 Interlocking & Signal System and Divide 1 System
- The new system is a necessary component of a comprehensive modernization effort to streamline operations, optimize flexibility, and ensure the safe movement of trains along the corridor
- Crews are continuing to work toward the cutover (scheduled for the weekend of 3/12) of the New Nassau 3 Interlocking & Signal System and Divide 1 System from School Street to the Wantagh State Parkway along the right of way
Upcoming Double Track Outages
- In this instance, a double track outage means both tracks on the Main Line are planned to go out of service, enabling critical infrastructure improvements during the weekend when LIRR service interruptions do not affect peak commuting hours
- To reduce the overall project schedule Both 3TC and LIRR crews may work during these double track outages
- In the month of March, four double track outages are scheduled — March 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 26-28.
- During the weekends of 3/19-3/21 and 3/26-3/28, crews will be removing and installing new track switches. Residents may hear louder noises and feel vibrations during this work. Your patience is greatly appreciated while this critical work takes place
