New Hyde Park
Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of May, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in New Hyde Park:

Wall Construction
- Crews will conduct excavation work and the installation of timber lagging for wall support between Premiere Avenue and Covert Avenue on the south side of the tracks
- Following the installation of timber lagging, crews will install precast retaining panels
- Following the installation of wall panels west of Covert Avenue, crews will begin working east of Covert Avenue, along the right of way, on the south side of the tracks
- Parking along 3rd Avenue will be reduced for the duration of this activity
- Upon completion of this project element, 3rd Avenue will be restored to its new and final one-way configuration
G14 Substation Replacement
- The new prefabricated substation building was successfully delivered in April
- Crews from 3TC and EJ Electric will continue to work on the necessary electrical utilities that feed the substation
- A crane will be used to set electrical equipment from 3rd Avenue on Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19
- 3rd Avenue, between South 8th Street and South 9th Street, will be closed between the hours of 7am and 4pm for this limited activity.

- The G14 Substation is one of several substations along the Main Line being replaced or modified with new modern equipment.
New Hyde Park Station Enhancement Project
- Excavation and installation of precast foundations are underway on the north and south sides of the tracks, from South 12th Street heading west
- Renovations on the station house are progressing including electrical upgrades, brick, and glass installation
- EJ Electric will continue to install conduit along the right of way
South 12th Street Pedestrian Underpass
- Crews will continue installing support of excavation (SOE) for the pedestrian underpass on both the north and south sides of the tracks
- Beginning on Monday, May 24th, crews will begin to relocate underground utilities from South 12th Street to South 11th Street to make room for the new pedestrian underpass
- Following this activity, crews will prepare to install a precast box structure beneath the tracks, which will act as the foundation for the underpass.
- As a result, both 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue will close between South 11th Street and South 12th Street from May 24 to approximately June 25. Parking will be restricted in these locations for the duration of this activity.
- The precast box structure will be installed during a double track outage over the weekend of June 11-13
- Construction on the South 12th Street Pedestrian Underpass is expected to be complete this Fall
- The new ADA compliant South 12th Street Pedestrian Underpass will maintain connectivity and access to both the north and south sides of the tracks

New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project
- 3TC subcontractors will be hydroseeding the area of New Hyde Park Road and Greenridge Circle in early May
- During May, crews from EJ Electric will be performing electrical testing underneath the New Hyde Park Road Bridge
- This activity is expected to last one day, and will require a single lane closure to complete
- Flaggers will be present to assist with two-way traffic during this operation
LIRR Work Along the Railroad Right-of-Way
- In addition to 3TC’s activities, you may see or hear LIRR forces working along the railroad right-of-way
- To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
