Happy Arbor Day from all of us at the LIRR Expansion Project! In celebration, we encourage our community members to plant a tree, do some gardening, or simply spend time outdoors this weekend and enjoy everything nature has to offer.
This appreciation of nature is among the many reasons why 3TC has placed a focus on re-greening efforts across the LIRR Expansion Project. While the construction work taking place along the Main Line corridor will lead to critical infrastructure upgrades that will benefit our region for decades to come, the vision for this project has always include much more. Beginning with the design phase, and now in construction, 3TC has remained committed to landscaping and other design elements – such as the planting of trees, shrubs and other greenery – that will enhance a completed project and contribute to the beautification of our communities.
Our crews will soon be out at New Hyde Park Road finishing hydroseeding work in the area just in time for late spring and the beginning of summer. However, this is not the first such effort focused on re-greening. Prior to the winter – when colder temperatures force a pause on planting – residents along the Main Line witnessed newly landscaped sidewalks in Floral Park along Terrace Avenue, fresh soil and planting at the New Hyde Park Road Pedestrian Overpass, and re-greening at both the Mineola Harrison Avenue Parking Structure and the Westbury North Parking Structure.
The planning and design of the landscape improvements were done in close consultation with individual communities to ensure the final product matches the aesthetics of each locality. In the months ahead, 3TC crews will be landscaping along Atlantic Avenue North in Carle Place—and planting more trees, which will be part of Long Island’s visual tapestry for many years.
