Garden City & Garden City Park
Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of November, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in Garden City and Garden City Park:
Completion dates are subject to change due to developments related to COVID-19
Merillon Avenue Station Enhancement
- Construction on the ADA-compliant elevators is expected to be complete this year
- Following the completion of construction, crews will begin commissioning and testing the elevators to ensure complete functionality and safety requirements are met
- The eastern portions of the Merillon Avenue Station platforms, on both the north and south sides of the tracks, are now open to commuters
- A new temporary platform has been installed along the south platform to assist passengers getting on to and off of trains. This temporary condition will exist until the third track is complete and functioning along the corridor
- The western portions of both platforms are currently closed, and the temporary station platforms have been demolished
- Please board and exit all trains (westbound and eastbound) from the first six (6) cars at Merillon Avenue Station
- For up to date information on ingress and egress please click here
- Some parking spots will remain unavailable at Merillon Avenue Station; replacement parking is provided north of Merillon Avenue Station, along Broadway between County Courthouse Road and Herricks Road, on the south side of the street
Tanners Pond Road/Denton Avenue Bridge Replacement Project
- The Tanners Pond/Denton Avenue Bridge is the last of seven bridges to be replaced or modified as part of the project
- The bridge is scheduled to be removed and replaced with a three-track structure to accommodate the new third track and improve safety while maintaining the bridge’s character
- An ADA-compliant sidewalk is planned on the east side of the roadway which will allow pedestrians to traverse safely between the north and south sides of the tracks
- During the month of November, crews will work to relocate above and below ground utilities
- As a result, Tanners Pond Road / Denton Avenue will be periodically closed at the bridge, from Railroad Avenue to Main Avenue during this activity
- During this closure, vehicles can continue to utilize Tanners Pond Road onto Main Avenue and Denton Avenue onto Railroad Avenue
- New Hyde Park Road and Nassau Boulevard can be utilized as alternate north/south routes
New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project
- Throughout November, crews will work to restore the area by installing landscaping
- The new surface parking lot on the northwest side of the crossing is now open for use
