New Hyde Park
Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of August, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in New Hyde Park:
Completion dates are subject to change due to developments related to COVID-19
New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project
- The newly built U-structure for the New Hyde Park Road Underpass was successfully installed over one weekend in July during a double track outage on the LIRR’s Main Line. For more information on this incredible milestone click here.
- The newly constructed roadway will be the site of a five-lane grade-separated underpass, with pedestrian sidewalks on the east and west sides of the roadway, as well as a dedicated left-turn lane from southbound New Hyde Park Road onto Clinch Avenue
- A new ADA compliant pedestrian overpass on the south side of New Hyde Park Road safely connects the east and west sides of the roadway for commuters
- A new signal has been installed at Plaza Avenue and New Hyde Park Road to assist with the flow of traffic and the new surface parking lot at 115 New Hyde Park Road is complete
- For the remainder of the closure, signage and detour plans are in place throughout the area. Click here to see the vehicular detour map, and here to see the pedestrian detour map. To access the temporary NICE Bus route, please click here.
New Hyde Park Station Enhancement Project

- Construction is continuing on the north and south support buildings, which is necessary for the maintenance of the new station
- On the north and south side of the tracks, the walls of the South 12th Street Underpass have been formed with concrete. Future work underneath the tracks will connect the north and south sides of the pedestrian underpass
- Residents will see crews working both on weekends and overnight hours to meet the expedited construction schedule for this crucial project element
- Commuters will continue to access a temporary 10-car platform, which runs along 2nd and 3rd Avenues, between South 12th Street and South 8th Street
- For the remainder of the work, signage and detours are in place to help customers access the station.
