The COVID-19 pandemic continues to change the way we live and work. Earlier this week brought “New York State on PAUSE,” which established a new directive for non-essential businesses and guidance for essential services. As an essential transportation infrastructure project, the LIRR Expansion Project is proceeding in line with this Executive Order, while doing our part to #FlattenTheCurve. How? By reimagining how we operate every day. A few highlights on what we’re doing:
- Telecommuting to the maximum extent possible
- Actively ensuring sanitation and personal hygiene on-site
- Using necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce exposure
- Following stringent protocols for team members who feel ill or have been exposed
- Maintaining social distancing at project sites and essential meetings
We’re so proud of our contractor, 3rd Track Constructors, for practicing social responsibility in parallel with social distancing. Our regional hospitals and first responders are experiencing a shortage of supplies, so 3TC stepped up and donated over 1,000 N95 masks to healthcare professionals and first responders. We thank everyone on Long Island and throughout the region who’s chipping in with supplies, expertise and support.
We’re also grateful to the MTA, LIRR and 3TC field teams who completed last weekend’s major milestone work on the Plainfield Avenue Bridge in the Village of Floral Park. A challenging job under normal circumstances, a Herculean effort during a global pandemic. We continue to advance the LIRR Expansion Project and look forward to reporting more completed project elements.
