On Friday, February 28th, 3TC’s Community Ambassador for Garden City & Garden City Park, Jim Green (left), spent the day talking to commuters at Merillon Avenue Station with LIRR branch line manager Jennifer Uihlein (right). The event was part of the LIRR’s ongoing “Meet Your Manager” series, which gives members of the community an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about station operations, planned improvements, and other important developments taking place at their local station.
As part of the LIRR Expansion Project, Merillon Avenue Station will receive a number of enhancements, including the removal and complete replacement of the platform which will enable it to accommodate 12-car trains. Other key enhancements include:
- Platform canopies
- Furnishings and other amenities like benches, shelters, and signage
- CCTV security cameras to improve safety
- ADA-compliant mobility improvements including elevators and ramps
- Free public Wi-Fi
- USB charging stations
- Digital information displays
All of these improvements were developed after extensive consultation with the community.
If you missed Jim and Jennifer, don’t worry! You can still reach out to our Community Ambassador team to find out more about these improvements and the entire LIRR Expansion Project.
