New Hyde Park – Highlights on Upcoming Construction

New Hyde Park

Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.

During the month of March, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in New Hyde Park:

New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project

• The New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project has begun. The road will be closed from Plaza Avenue to 4^th Avenue until Labor Day
• Throughout the month of March, construction crews will continue excavating and lagging the area on both the north and south sides of the tracks for the installation of tie-backs
  • In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration are continuously monitored

  • 3TC is continuing to coordinate with Village elected officials, Nassau County, New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), and the MTAPD to ensure efficiency of the closure

New Hyde Park Station Enhancement Project

• The New Hyde Park Station Enhancement Project has begun. Customers will continue to access a temporary 10-car platform, which runs along 2^nd and 3^rd Avenues, between South 12^th Street and South 8^th Street
• Throughout the month of March, crews from 3TC will install support of excavation (SOE) and set footings for the permanent platforms
  • Residents will see crews working both during the day and overnight on this crucial project element to meet the expedited construction schedule
  • In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration are continuously monitored
• For the remainder of the work, signage and detours are in place to help customers access the station. Wall Construction

• On the south side, from 6^th Avenue, heading east to Covert Avenue, construction crews will continue to install retaining and sound attenuation walls along the right-of-way
• In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration are continuously monitored

LIRR Work along the Railroad Right-of-Way

• In addition and complementary to 3TC’s activities, you may see or hear LIRR forces working along the railroad right-of-way. These activities may include:
  • Regular track inspection and maintenance; Rail tie replacement; Grade crossing elimination preparatory work
• To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
