Carle Place
Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of March, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in Carle Place:
Glen cove road bridge modification project
- Work on the Glen Cove Road Bridge Replacement Project has begun and will continue into Summer 2020
- Throughout the month of March, construction crews will install tie-backs and excavate to build the west abutments
- As a result, the west side sidewalk will be closed, and one southbound lane will be closed to traffic until Spring 2020
- The Glen Cove Road Bridge Replacement Project is one of seven bridges to be modified along the LIRR Main Line. The new bridge will provide sufficient clearance for trucks to safely pass underneath it and will be built to support the new third track of the main line
Meadowbrook Parkway Bridge Modification Project
- The Meadowbrook Parkway Bridge is one of seven bridges to be modified along the LIRR Main Line. The new bridge will be built to support the new third track of the main line
- Throughout the month of March, construction crews will begin to clear and grub the area to prepare for construction
- No traffic detours or lane closures are expected to be in place during this time
Carle Place Station Enhancement Project
- Construction of the new pedestrian overpass and elevator foundations will continue
- On the south side of the tracks, crews will form the overpass building walls and erect steel for the canopies
- On the north side, canopy roofing and brick enclosures are being built
- Utility crews from EJ Electric will continue setting permanent transmission poles around the station
- To access Carle Place Station, please use:
- Stonehinge Lane to access the westbound platform
- Garden Avenue to access the eastbound platform (via the Fuschillo Park walkway)
- Staircases at Cherry Lane for westbound and eastbound platforms
- Please board and exit all trains at the station (westbound and eastbound) from the first 6 cars
- Note some station work will occur at night and on weekends
Wall Construction
- Crews are continuing the installation of caissons along Atlantic Avenue on the north side of the tracks, from Meadowbrook Parkway to Cherry Lane
- As a result, Atlantic Avenue from Cherry Lane to Silver Lake Boulevard is limited to one-way eastbound traffic for residents only
- Residents will see crews in and around the Nassau County Retention Basin drilling caissons and relocating above ground utilities to allow for wall construction
- 3TC will re-green the area following completion of the walls
- Retaining wall installation is complete on the south side from Meadowbrook Parkway to Holle Place
- In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration monitoring devices are deployed
LIRR Work along the Railroad Right-of-Way
- In addition and complementary to 3TC’s activities, you may see or hear LIRR forces working along the railroad right-of-way. These activities may include:
- Regular track inspection and maintenance; rail tie replacement; grade crossing elimination preparatory work
- To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
