- Construction of the Westbury North Parking Structure is ahead of schedule
- The use of prefabricated components is key to the project’s significant progress
- Prefabricated components – which are assembled at a separate location and transported to the construction site by truck – reduce site disruption, provide consistent quality, and reduce construction time
As Third Track Constructors’ (3TC) work on the Westbury North Parking Structure continues ahead of schedule, the quick progress is partly due to the use of advanced techniques like prefabricated construction components. These prefabricated components are key to project’s efficiency and will enable the new parking structure to open in Spring 2021 as planned. Prefabricated components for this structure, which will accommodate 683 parking spaces, include garage walls (as pictured) and floor slabs that are poured and assembled at an offsite location and transported to the construction site by truck. Once at the site, the materials are easily placed using cranes.
Numerous benefits come with the use of prefabricated components on the Westbury North Parking Structure project. By reducing truck traffic, equipment and material suppliers at the actual construction site, disruptions are limited, allowing for a safer and more productive worksite. And by creating these components in a controlled manufacturing environment – following specific standards – the prefabricated components have a more consistent quality. This limits construction waste and, most importantly, improves the overall safety of the structure.
