Carle Place
Significant progress has been made on the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most noteworthy transportation projects. While the duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction, the 3rd Track Constructors team is phasing elements to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of February, you will see crews performing the following construction activities in Carle Place:
Glen cove road bridge modification project
- Work on the Glen Cove Road Bridge Modification Project has begun and will continue into Spring 2020
- Throughout the month of February 2020, construction crews will install support of excavation (SOE), tie-backs, and excavate to build the west abutments.
- As a result, the west side sidewalk will be closed, and one southbound lane will be closed to traffic until early Spring 2020
- The Glen Cove Road Bridge Modification Project is one of seven bridges to be modified along the LIRR Main Line. The new bridge will provide sufficient clearance for trucks to safely pass underneath it, and will be built to support the new third track of the main line
Carle Place Station Enhancement Project
- Crews will continue construction of the new pedestrian overpass and elevator foundations
- To access Carle Place Station, please use:
- Stonehinge Lane to access the westbound platform
- Garden Avenue to access the eastbound platform (via the Fuschillo Park walkway)
- Staircases at Cherry Lane for westbound and eastbound platforms
- Please board and exit all trains at the station (westbound and eastbound) from the first 6 cars
- Note some station work will occur at night and on weekends
Wall Construction
- Installation of SOE from Glen Cove Road to Meadowbrook Parkway is complete. Wall installation is expected to follow the completion of the Glen Cove Road Bridge Modification
- Clearing and grubbing on the west side of Glen Cove Road, to approximately Roslyn Road, is ongoing and nearing completion. The installation of SOE is ongoing
- Retaining wall installation is in progress on the south side from Meadowbrook Parkway to Holle Place
- Wall construction is underway on the north side of Atlantic Avenue from Meadowbrook Parkway to Cherry Lane and is expected to be complete in Spring 2020
- Atlantic Avenue on the north side of the tracks is CLOSED to through traffic from Meadowbrook Parkway to Cherry Lane. This portion of Atlantic Avenue is one-way eastbound for residents only
- 3TC will re-green the area following completion of the walls
- In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration monitoring devices are deployed
LIRR Work along the Railroad Right-of-Way
- In addition and complementary to 3TC’s activities, you may see or hear LIRR forces working along the railroad right-of-way. These activities may include:
- Regular track inspection and maintenance; rail tie replacement; grade crossing elimination preparatory work
- To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
