As of Monday February 3rd, New Hyde Park Road will remain closed to all traffic from Plaza Avenue to 4th Avenue as part of the New Hyde Park Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project. See here for pedestrian and vehicular detour maps.
The existing New Hyde Park LIRR station platforms have also been closed for reconstruction. Customers can access a temporary 10-car platform immediately west of the existing station between South 12th and South 8th Streets. See here for LIRR wayfinding map.
Elimination of the at-grade crossing will enhance safety, reduce noise, and improve LIRR service reliability. The reconstructed roadway will feature a new, five-lane underpass with pedestrian sidewalks on the east and west sides of the road, and a dedicated left-turn lane onto Clinch Avenue.
The New Hyde Park LIRR station will receive interior and exterior renovations, ADA-compliant mobility features, WiFi, and USB charging stations, as well as improved security enhancements, digital information displays and more.
