Exactly one month and two days ago, we proudly announced that the Urban Avenue at-grade crossing had been eliminated and the roadway was reopened. Following a ribbon-cutting event, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department led a procession of vehicles, including a Westbury Fire Department truck, ceremoniously though the new underpass, marking the successful completion of the Urban Avenue Grade Crossing Elimination Project.
Today, we are happy to report that the work on this specific project element is 100 percent complete. Late in the day on November 7, more than 20 days ahead of schedule, construction crews finished the ancillary repaving work on Broadway and Railroad Avenue, between Kinkel and Rushmore Streets.
As the crews wrapped up their work, our street sweeper came through to make sure that we were meeting our commitments of leaving the area clear of debris and in a condition for which we can all be proud.
Urban Avenue is, officially, the first of eight grade crossings to be completed as part of the LIRR Expansion Project.
