During the weekend of July 20-21, Carle Place Station and Westbury Station will be closed and there will be no train service between Mineola and Hicksville (in both directions).

As you know, at-grade railroad crossings have been problematic throughout the LIRR’s 185-year history, causing noise, safety and traffic concerns. That’s why some of the most important elements of the LIRR Expansion Project are the elimination of eight at-grade crossings along the corridor – including the one at Urban Avenue. The elimination of the grade crossings will bring immediate benefits in terms of improved service reliability, a safer and uninterrupted flow of traffic, and reduced noise from train horns.
The LIRR Expansion Project team has made significant progress on this Urban Avenue Grade Crossing Elimination Project and, over the weekend of July 20-21, the team will achieve another milestone – the roll-in of the bridge for the Urban Avenue overpass. The newly constructed overpass will hold three tracks and will feature a two-lane underpass for vehicular traffic that also includes a pedestrian sidewalk.
Please see below for all of the information commuter and area residents may need during this weekend work.
What you can expect
To prepare for and execute the “roll-in” of the new overpass, there will be no train service between Hicksville and Mineola on July 20-21. For LIRR customers that use Carle Place Station and/or Westbury Station, the MTA LIRR recommends traveling to/from Mineola, which has parking at a modest fee (no permit required) in the Mineola Intermodal Center garage. Bus service, via the N22 and N24 NICE Bus, is also a good option to utilize to reach Mineola Station. See www.nicebus.com for bus schedules.

Lastly, Urban Avenue, from Broadway to Main Street, remains closed. The detour plan that was designed to make navigating around the closure as easy as possible is still in effect. The free pedestrian shuttle service also continues to be available from the corner of Broadway and Urban Avenue (north of the tracks) to Main Street and Urban Avenue (south of the tracks). The shuttle runs seven days a week, approximately every half hour from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
