Carle Place
The LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most significant transportation infrastructure projects, is now underway throughout the communities along a nearly ten mile stretch of mainline track.
The duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction. The project elements are phased to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of July, you will see crews performing work in Carle Place, including surveying, testing, ongoing rodent control, and monitoring construction activities for noise, dust, and vibration. By way of explanation:
Cherry Lane Bridge Replacement
- 3TC successfully completed the roll-in of the new Cherry Lane Bridge in June
- The bridge is in place and in use
Wall Construction
- Along the right-of-way, sections of sheet piles, recycled steel with interlocking edges, will be installed in sequence to form a wall for earth support
- Installed by vibratory hammers, sheet piles provide the support necessary for the construction of the retaining wall
- Installing sound wall on the south side of the right-of-way
- Removing existing separation fence along the right-of-way
- Excavation and installation of the retaining wall on the south side of Cherry Lane to Meadowbrook Road
- Clearing and grubbing along the north side of Cherry Lane to Meadowbrook Road
- Installation of supports of excavation along the north side of Cherry Lane to Meadowbrook Road
- In adherence to our commitment to minimize disruption to the community, noise, dust, and vibration monitoring devices are deployed
- While crews will access the right-of-way via Garden Avenue, using 15-feet of Charles J. Fuschillo Park, the park will remain open and the construction work will not impact its availability. Foam padding was installed along the 3TC construction fence facing the field
Carle Place Station Enhancement Project
- During the month of July you will see crews:
- Demolishing the northeast platform, north pier, and pedestrian overpass
- Installing precast footings, rebar and formwork, and pouring columns to support the south side platform
- The westernmost portion of the westbound platform will be reopened and a temporary staircase is available on Cherry Lane
- The westernmost portion of the eastbound platform and the associated staircase on Cherry Lane will be reopened after the pedestrian overpass is demolished
- In the interim, please use Garden Avenue and/or Carle Road (south of the tracks) to access the eastbound platform
- Please use the temporary staircase on Cherry Lane and/or Stonehinge Lane to access the westbound platform
- To board/exit trains at Carle Place Station, please be prepared to board and exit all trains (westbound and eastbound) from the first six (6) cars
LIRR Work along the Railroad Right-of-Way
- In addition to 3TC’s activities, LIRR forces will be working along the railroad right-of-way
- To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
- These activities are ongoing across the Main Line corridor, and may include: regular track inspection & maintenance, rail tie replacement, and grade crossing elimination
