Westbury
The LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, one of the region’s most significant transportation infrastructure projects, is now underway throughout the communities along a nearly ten mile stretch of mainline track.
The duration and intensity of work depends on the project element under construction. The project elements are phased to reduce the amount of disruption in any given community at any given time.
During the month of June, you will see crews in and around Westbury conducting pre-construction activities for the Westbury North Parking Structure, ongoing rodent control, and monitoring construction activities for noise, dust, and vibration. By way of explanation:
Westbury North Parking Structure
- Thanks to favorable soil conditions, the 3TC construction team and its subcontractors completed the first elements of the construction on the Westbury North Parking Structure last month:
- To prepare the site for construction of the foundation of the garage, soldier piles were installed/driven into the ground
- Throughout this work, the team adhered to their commitment to minimizing disruption to the community, and did not have any reports of issues with the noise, dust, or vibrations
- During June, construction on the parking structure will include:
- Continued installation of support of excavation
- Temporary electrical service installation
- Excavation of existing soil
- The Westbury North parking lot closed in April and will closed for the remainder of construction. During this closure, 3TC will:
- Provide a free shuttle bus between the Westbury Station and The Source Mall
- There is a shuttle stop along Union Avenue at the base of the easternmost stairwell for the westbound platform
- There is a shuttle stop at the alternate parking location at The Source Mall (Fortunoff Way and Old Country Road)
- The shuttles are synchronized to the new LIRR timetables to help ensure that all riders may make their train

- Signage directing commuters and parkers of the closure and alternate parking locations have been posted
- Provide a free shuttle bus between the Westbury Station and The Source Mall
Demolition of 167 School Street
- Environmental testing, in preparation of demolition, of the existing structure at 167 School Street continues
Wall Construction
- A sound wall will be installed along Ellison and Madison Avenues on the south side of the rightof-way
- Shafts will be drilled on the north side of the tracks from Ellison to Post Avenue
- Support of excavation will continue on the south side of the tracks from Madison to Post Avenues
- The existing separation fence will be removed and backfilled
LIRR Work along the Railroad Right-of-Way
- In addition to 3TC’s activities, LIRR forces will be working along the railroad right-of-way
- To avoid LIRR service interruptions during peak commuting hours, LIRR work along the railroad right-of-way may take place overnight and on weekends
- These activities are ongoing across the Main Line corridor, and may include: regular track inspection & maintenance, rail tie replacement, and grade crossing elimination
