In our efforts to keep you informed of important work in your community related to the LIRR Expansion Project, the 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) Community Ambassador team has an important update related to the Cherry Lane Bridge Replacement project.
To build this superstructure, 3TC will use the area just north of the bridge on Cherry Lane, between Mineola Avenue and Atlantic Avenue as a staging area. To accommodate this staging, this short, one-block area of Cherry Lane will be closed from the south side of Mineola Avenue to the north side of Atlantic Avenue.
To keep north-south access open at all times, a detour has been planned using Mineola, Rushmore and Atlantic Avenues to divert local traffic around the work. All commercial traffic will be redirected away from Cherry Lane at the Northern Parkway exit and at Old Country Road. This means the area will be restricted to local traffic only for the duration of the work.
For those who live in the affected area, flaggers will be strategically placed at each intersection to guide residents to their homes and may be dispatched at any time to assist with navigation around the work. In addition, the Town of North Hempstead will institute temporary “no parking” regulations during the construction project, to further alleviate traffic in the area.
We also would like to assure you that we have worked with the local school district to modify bus routes to avoid the work area, and emergency responders are aware of the closure and the detour plan.
This detour plan will take effect on or about April 3, 2019 and is expected to last approximately eight weeks. At no time during this process will north-south pedestrian access be restricted.
Construction is scheduled each day from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. With the completion of this activity, the work planned for Carle Place will be more than halfway done.
We will continue to keep you informed about our progress. Please do not hesitate to contact your 3TC Community Ambassador team with questions about this work or any of the work in Carle Place. You can email us at CommunityOutreach@LIRRExpansion.com or call our 24/7 hotline at 516.203.4955.
